An argument over the rubbish left outside a south Canberra home resulted in a man attacking three of his neighbours, police say.

A woman went to the 36-year-old’s home on Tuesday afternoon (20 January) and asked him to remove the rubbish left on her property before he yelled at her, an ACT Policing spokesperson alleged.

A man and a woman in a nearby house heard the argument, then allegedly saw the man grabbing and shoving the first woman.

The two neighbours then confronted the man, who allegedly shoved and hit the second woman in the face, and grabbed the male neighbour.

Police officers soon arrived and spoke to the defendant, who isn’t named for the time being to protect the neighbour’s identities. He was then arrested.

He was charged with three counts of assault when he faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Wednesday (21 January).

He applied for bail, which was not opposed by the prosecution. Magistrate Ian Temby granted it on condition that he not contact his three neighbours or be near their homes.

The matter will return to court on 17 February. No pleas were entered.
