Canberra’s own cabaret restaurant Templo is back with a new show to dazzle and delight diners. And all I have to say is shut up and take my money, money, money! The ABBA Dining Experience will serve up a joyous night of disco-dancing, sequin-fuelled fun alongside a delicious two-course meal.
Templo Theatre, located upstairs at Saint Malo on London Circuit, creates seasonal shows featuring a super troupe(r) of local performers, singers and dancers. Previous shows include All That Glitters – a tribute to vintage Hollywood movie magic – and Prohibition Romance, set to a soundtrack of speakeasy classics. Performers are also working on a show titled Through The Decades which will feature iconic music from years gone by.
Venue manager Tonna Nassar says the ABBA Dining Experience has been choreographed and put together by regular Templo performer Eloise Riordon, responsible for several other popular shows.
She expects Canberrans will enjoy the latest offering.
“There will be lots of crowd interaction, and it will just be a really fun night,” Tonna says.
“We get all sorts of different people coming through Templo: girls’ nights, couples on dates, and lots of people who love theatre. We’re Canberra’s only cabaret restaurant so there are heaps of people really interested in what we’re doing.”

The dinner and a show ticket comes with a Mediterranean-inspired two-course menu. The main dish of pan-fried chicken breast comes with pumpkin puree, corn and chorizo salsa: Mama Mia, it sounds delicious! Dessert is a creamy pannacotta with fresh berries (Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!) and the bar will be open throughout the evening if you need a little liquid courage to take on your Waterloo.
The show will feature all the dance floor hits of ABBA, so you can expect to have your very own Dancing Queen moment among the plush chairs and velvet surrounds of Templo.
Terrible song references aside, Templo Theatre is filling a gap in Canberra’s creative arts scene and creating performance opportunities for young singers, dancers and actors to tread the boards, get paid for what they love and get a taste for the spotlight. And as they develop their craft, they’re also providing Canberrans a chance to relax, have fun, and get the sequins out for a night on the town. So I say to Templo, thank you for the music… whoops, there I go again!

Shows at Templo Theatre generally run on weekends for a few months at a time. But the team wanted to mix things up with its ABBA tribute, which will run for four nights only in late May. So call your mates and take a chance on a ticket before it slips through your fingers.
The ABBA Dining Experience will have two seatings per night on 23, 24, 30 and 31 May. Templo Theatre is located on level one above Saint Malo Restaurant, 19 London Circuit, Canberra.
