Government to shift the FOI platitudes

Yesterday Simon Corbell announced plans to change Freedom of Information laws in response to the Standing Committee on Justice and Community Safety’s investigation into the area.

Simon’s media release is full of the normal waffle in this area. Everyone’s notionally in favour of FOI, no one likes actually making their own information free.

To some extent the ACT Government appears to be realising FOI is a good tool just to let them come to grips with their own public service.

The actual response is now available and is also light on hard detail:

It’s all about “more” and intention, and the development of future policies.

Nothing a skilled bureaucrat can’t get around.
