Something special is brewing at Little Sutton Bakehouse – smoother than their signature coffee and sweeter than their finest artisanal treats.

A slice of cafe culture has moved into the humble hamlet of Sutton, bringing an all-new menu of wholesome hot meals and superfood indulgences.

This isn’t your local bakery putting on a few hot options – tucked away in a quiet rural setting, this café is run by Canberra hospitality royalty.

Omar Muscat and Daniel Sparrow are a formidable duo with more than 40 years’ combined hospitality experience, from apprenticeships at iconic institutions to founding some of Canberra’s most beloved cafes, bars and restaurants.

Omar has owned and operated multiple hospitality venues throughout Canberra, including local favourites Double Shot, Urban Pantry and Public Bar.

It was during his time operating Cream Cafe & Bar when Omar met his future business partner Daniel, at the time a fresh-faced 15-year-old apprentice.

Under Omar’s guidance, Daniel quickly rose through the hospitality ranks from wait staff to head barista to assistant manager.

As time passed, their mentorship turned to partnership, with Daniel playing a key role in helping Omar build and operate his new venture Doubleshot Deakin.

After Omar moved to Sutton in 2022, the pair joined forces to bring new energy to Little Sutton Bakehouse.

“Places for people to gather are the heart of any town,” said Omar. “When the bakery came up for sale, we jumped at the opportunity. It’s been a fantastic way to settle into the village and support that sense of community.”

Now, after upgrades inside and out, the Bakehouse is serving up a menu that the boys say has “taken the most popular dishes from our Canberra cafes and perfected them into country comfort food”.

The new all day menu offers a carefully curated and diverse range of seasonal dishes, blending traditional farmhouse pantry staples with modern urban flavours.

Rise and shine with apple crumble porridge, sourdough toast with Pepe Saya butter, or – if you’re feeling decadent – a lux-looking panna cotta granola.

Hearty winter appetites will appreciate the Bakehouse roll with hickory smoked bacon, free-range eggs and gruyere cheese on a house-made milk bun.

For the health-conscious, the country bowl offers clean eating from the vegetable patch with a mix of roasted sweet potato, pickled zucchini, red cabbage and roasted sunflower seeds.

Whether you’re seeking an energy boost or comfort food, an acai bar offers innovative mixes from fresh berries to indulgent biscoff. And with smoothies in every shade of the rainbow, there’s a drink to match every mood.

Adding to the appeal of the vibrant new menu is the opportunity to enjoy it in the newly upgraded outdoor space, designed to create “a peaceful oasis feel in a country setting”.

“It’s all about giving people somewhere peaceful to relax and connect,” said Omar. “As the plants mature over the next year, it will really come to life as a warm and inviting retreat.”

Omar and Dan say the aim of the game and the Little Sutton slogan is to “nourish your soul”.

“Driving out to the countryside, enjoying a good meal, connecting with friends and family – it all nourishes you.”

Already a much-loved destination where locals linger and visitors unwind, the Bakehouse continues to earn its place at the heart of the Sutton community, with the launch of its new menu serving up the quality and care this community cornerstone deserves.

Little Sutton Bakehouse is at 1 Victoria Street, Sutton. Follow them on Facebook or Instagram. The new menu is available seven days a week from 7 am until 2:30 pm.
