Police seize alleged drugs worth a combined $1.5 million in roadside stops

Two police stops saw three people arrested in the state’s south over alleged drug offences.

A NSW Police spokesperson said that at about 9:20 am on Monday (23 February), officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command stopped a car on Hume Street in Goulburn for a roadside test.

“Officers searched the vehicle and found 14 duffle bags of cannabis, weighing 147 kg – with an estimated street value of $750,000,” they said.

Two men, aged 26 and 31, were arrested and taken to Goulburn Police Station.

Both men were charged with supplying a prohibited drug in a quantity greater than or equal to a large commercial quantity.

They were refused bail to appear in Bail Division Court 3 today (24 February), where they were formally refused bail.

They are next scheduled to appear in Goulburn Local Court on 15 April.

NSW Police also charged a third man after a separate incident on the Hume Highway.

Police were patrolling the Hume Highway at Bookham when they pulled over a van with Victorian number plates at around 7:45 am on Monday (23 February).

Police searched the vehicle and seized 293,200 individual cigarettes, 265 kilograms of hard-pressed tobacco leaf and 2290 individual vape products.

Combined, it has a value of $784,950, the spokesperson said.

The driver, a 58-year-old male, was arrested and taken to Yass Police Station.

He has been charged with two counts of possessing tobacco (50 or more) in a commercial quantity and possessing (greater than 100) a commercial quantity of vaping goods.

He was granted conditional bail and will next appear in Yass Local Court on 30 April.
