Does anyone know if there is an abattoir near Canberra where I could have my chickens processed so they could legally be sold?
Cheers.

@FiSyd – did you ever find anywhere to deal with your chickens?
I am looking for the same, except just for us to eat – not to sell.

Duckslayer would make an excellent name for a metal band. The lead singer could be Swanee and the surviving members of the Byrds could provide the music..
Nah, the OP only wants to listen to Chookslayer.

Chopping block and a sharpened tomahawk. It’s actually pretty easy. Removing the feathers isn’t much fun though.
Now do a hundred or so

I used to work in a friends chicken abattoir and I reckon that the Belconnen facility wouldn’t take cointract birds. ….
I’ve heard of a goose that laid golden eggs, but not a chook with a cointract.
Er, “gold”!
Those duckslayer machines work real well. I used to to have something similar a few years ago. I don’t see why they wouldn’t work just as well on a chook.
It might even be worthwhile trying one on a greeny if you ever accidentally shot one on opening day 🙂

There is a place on the outskirts of Belconnen that deals with the extermination of chickens, Poultrywitz.
There is a sign on the front that reads: Welcome to Inghams “Ein Wok machen Sie gebratene”.
A scary, scary, tasty place.

Do a bit of DIY action it’s been happening for years. It’s only a chook after all

If you are planning a meat substitution racket, the size of the drumsticks will be a dead giveaway.
I used to work in a friends chicken abattoir and I reckon that the Belconnen facility wouldn’t take cointract birds. Have a look on the Rotary Farmers Market website. Each of the chicken places has a contact number so you could give them a call.
How many do you have?
The only chicken processing place I know of around here is Young’s Chickens in Balydon Road, Queanbeyan. A reasonably large sized outfit, but not sure if they will process other people’s chickens.

As in you give me money, I give you a chicken (or part thereof).
And you’re registered are you?
You could ask the organic butcher at Griffith Shops for a lead? There’s an abattoir in Goulburn – but I suspect there’s a different skill set and setup needed for chickens. If your enterprise is a cottage industry, you could just approach any butcher in Canberra and hire their butchering space of a Sunday, and do it yourself.

Giving someone a chicken in return for AUD. Is this a concept you are not familiar with?
